Leo Benvenuti and Steve Rudnick wrote the screenplay for the 1994 American Christmas comedy film The Santa Clause, which was directed by John Pasquin. In the first film of the Santa Clause series, Tim Allen plays Scott Calvin, a regular guy who on Christmas Eve unintentionally sends Santa Claus (played by Tim Allen’s real stunt double, Steve Lucescu) plummeting from his roof and into his death.
After completing the late St. Nick’s journey and deliveries with his little son Charlie, he and Charlie travel to the North Pole, where Scott discovers he must take on the role of the New Santa and persuade everyone he cares about that he is, in fact, Santa Claus.
The movie was initially scheduled to be released under the Hollywood Pictures label, but it was moved to the Walt Disney Pictures banner after receiving positive test screenings from kids.
