Story

“Get ready to be thrilled and captivated as I take you on a journey through the exhilarating storyline of Tar. Buckle up and get ready to be swept away by this epic adventure film!”

The Berlin Philharmonic’s first female main conductor is Lydia Tár. Francesca, her personal secretary, and Sharon, her spouse and concertmaster, are both important to her. There at New Yorker Festival, Lydia showcases her upcoming live version of Mahler’s 5th Symphony as well as her autobiography Tár about Tár in a conversation with Adam Gopnik. Eliot Kaplan, an amateur conductor and investment banker, introduces himself to Lydia. He and Lydia co-founded the Accordion Foundation to assist young female conductors. They talk about technique, finding a conductor to replace Lydia’s helper Sebastian, and filling a cello job in Berlin.

A masterclass by Lydia is held there at Juilliard School. She pushes a student who disparages white male composers like J. S. Bach and exhorts pupils to place more emphasis on the music than the performer.

Olga Metkina, a Russian applicant, is spotted by Lydia in the restroom prior to a private interview for the cello position. Olga is given a soloist position in Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto after Lydia makes a revision to the score to guarantee Olga a place in the orchestra. Lydia’s relations with Francesca as well as Sharon become strained as she gets ready for the recording as they become aware of her interest to Olga.

Krista commits suicide after writing Francesca a series of frantic emails. Krista’s parents want to file a lawsuit, so Lydia asks Francesca to erase all emails regarding Krista and hires legal counsel. Sebastian learns of his replacement from Lydia. Lydia is plagued by flashbacks, chronic pain, an increase in hypersensitivity to audio, and mysterious scribbles that resemble those Krista used to make. Lydia is also disturbed by shouting women in the distance. The sound of a medical gadget adjacent door, where her neighbour is taking care of her dying mother, distracts her as she works on a composition.

The New York Post publishes an article accusing Lydia of sexual predation after an edited video of her Juilliard class goes viral. In order to promote her book and undergo a hearing for Krista’s parents’ lawsuit, Lydia travels back to New York with Olga. They are greeted by protesters. The plaintiffs question Lydia about accusatory emails exchanged among Francesca and Krista during the deposition.

Due of the issue, Lydia is fired as conductor in Berlin. Having a child is a big responsibility. Lydia isolates herself in her old studio, where she spirals into madness and depression. She infiltrates the live performance of Mahler’s Fifth then attacks Eliot, who is filling in for her. She travels to her family’s house on Staten Island with awards of accomplishment carrying her real identity, Linda Tarr, and is advised by her management company to keep a low profile. She sobs as she hears an old tape of Leonard Bernstein talking on the significance of music on Young People’s Concerts. Tony, her brother, shows up and chastises her for ignoring her origins.

Lydia discovers undemanding employment guiding in the Philippines some weeks later. She approaches the hotel receptionist for advice about a massage. She’s taken to a brothel, where a lot of young girls are sitting in numbered robes. Lydia hurries outdoors to throw up after the woman in robe 5 looks up into her eyes. In front of a group of cosplayers, Lydia conducts her brand-new ensemble while playing music from the Monster Hunter video game franchise. The movie ends in dream-like situation.
