What to know about the Lux Style Awards?

Lux style award I an award decorum which has been organized every year in Pakistan since 2002. The awards are based on “style” present in the Pakistani film industry and showbiz. The awards are mainly dedicated to music, cinema, fashion television, and the film industry. A panel of capable judges decides the winner’s name for each category.

Lux style awards are held mostly in “Karachi ” but sometimes in other cities and countries too i.e Lahore, Kuala Lumpur, and Dubai. Lux style awards were launched and organized by Naheed Choudary in 2002 with the collaboration of Farieha Altaf, former model, TV, and event producer.it is the largest and oldest award ceremony which is held in Pakistan annually.

“I wanted to ensure that there was a sustainable legacy created that impartially assessed contributors and gave back to society through scholarships in the arts and culture arena”, said  Chowdhury. “One that would go on to be recognized as the ‘Oscars’ of Pakistan.  The first award ceremony was held in the Naval base Karachi due to the high alert security and great personalities in attendance.

The first Ceremony continued seven days of fashion exhibition at different smaller venues in Karachi but now this is conserved to only three days in 2008 the awards were postponed and it was decided the very year to provide scholarships to the students of the art school. The purpose of the addition of the people’s choice award was to engage people to watch awards. The lux style award was broadcasted on TV for many years.

In 2001 the winning movies were “Tere Pyar main” by Sajjad Gul and the nominated were “Ghar kab aaoge” by Shazad Gul and “khoye ho tum Kahan” by Saqib Khan. In 2002 the winning movie was “yeh dil aap ka hoa” by Akbar Khan and the nominated movies were “Bhuddha Gujar” and “Dil Deewana hy” in the year 2003 there was a tie between “Yeh Wada Raha” by Pervaiz Khalil and “larki punjaban” by Afzal Muhammad Khan and no nomination. in 2004 the winning movie was “khamoosh pani” by Peter Rehman. in 2005 the winning movie was “koi tujh sa Kahan” by Reema khan.

In the year 2009, the winner movie was “Nach kay yaar manana” by Syed Noor.no movie was awarded in the year 2010. in 2011 the winning movie was “bol” by Shoaib Mansoor. in 2013 the winner movie was “Zinda bhaag” by Mazhar Zaidi and the nominated movies were “waar” by Hassan Rana,” Main hoon Shahid Afridi” by Humayun Saeed, and “Siyaah” by Imran Raza Kazmi. Lux style awards for best film were first chosen by people till 2011 but after 2011 jury took charge and chooses the best film for the award.

the first winner for this award was “Tere Pyar main” in 2002. every year jury selects a shortlist of movies from number 1 to 10 for nomination in awards there was no nomination in the years. 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2011 due to lack of film production. there was no award given in the years 2010 and 2012 because the jury hasn’t found any film worth winning.
