Jonah Hauer King made the wrong kind of splash when to play Prince Eric in Rob Marshall’s new live-action version of The Little Mermaid, he bulked up like a Marvel star. Let’s Have a Look:

Jonah Hauer King had to get in shape to play the young prince who sails the seas. But when the coronavirus pandemic stopped filming, he had eight more months to get ready and got a little too fit, his trainer Sana Shirvani said in a recent interview with Insider.

Shirvani put Jonah Hauer King on a standard bodybuilding program meant to give him lean muscle without making him add fat. “It was a typical bodybuilding program, so for example, we would work on our back and biceps, chest and triceps,” she said. “We would only work on making his body a little bit stronger and bigger.” 

She said, “I remember the director coming up to me and telling me, ‘We don’t want the Incredible Hulk, we want a strong sailor boy.’

The 27-year-old’s trainer cut back on his workouts and added more protein to his diet to help him lose the extra muscles.

“He was so, so dedicated,” said Shirvani. “He was so professional that he said yes to everything I asked of him.”
